House in Aragats

House in Aragats

Two-story dwelling in Aragats, Armenia, going to integrate contemporary minimalistic design with the region’s unique environment and cultural heritage. Here’s a conceptual outline for the architecture and design:

1. Site Context and Orientation
 • Location and Climate: Aragats is known for its mountainous terrain, cool climate, and picturesque views. The design will orient the dwelling to maximize natural light and take advantage of the views, particularly toward Mount Ararat.
 • Topography: Utilizing the natural incline  the swimming pool is nicely integrated in the backyard of the residence.
 • Cultural Sensitivity: Reflect traditional Armenian architecture by incorporating local materials like travertine and basalt stone, in harmony with the local traditions and visual shapes.

2. Architectural Design

Exterior Concept:
 • Style: A minimalist yet contemporary aesthetic with clean lines, flat roofs, and clean geometric volumes.
 • Material Palette: Natural travertine and basalt stone, timber and steel accents, and large glass panels for a modern-traditional fusion.
 • Roof: A flat roof with solar panels for energy efficiency, echoing sustainable principles.
 • Façade: Large south-facing windows for passive solar gain, while the northern façade remains more closed to minimize heat loss.

3. Structural and Design Features
 • Reinforced Concrete:
 • Earthquake-Resistant Design: Reinforced concrete shear walls and a rigid structural framework for stability.

4. Sustainability
 • Energy Efficiency: Use triple-glazed windows and insulated doors to minimize energy loss. Solar panels or geothermal systems can provide sustainable heating.
 • Rainwater Harvesting: Collect rainwater for irrigation or household use.
 • Natural Ventilation: Optimize cross-ventilation by aligning windows and openings with prevailing wind patterns.

5. Landscaping
 • Integration with Nature: Native plants, rock gardens, and pathways that follow the natural contours of the land.
 • Outdoor Living: A pool, patio and summer kitchen and dinning for outdoor socializing, with a fire pit for chilly evenings.
 • Green Spaces: Small orchards or vegetable gardens reflecting Armenian agricultural traditions.

This design merges modernity with local identity, ensuring the home is comfortable, sustainable, and rooted in its environment. Would you like specific design drawings or renderings based on this concept?
